COMMITTEES
EXECUTIVE: The Executive Committee comprises of the elected officers of the SWA Board, including but not limited to the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Communication Director . The President acts as the Chair of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee meets only if there is important Board decisions or discussions that cannot wait to the next scheduled SWA Board Meeting. In addition, the Executive Committee also acts as a Personnel Committee when the organization employs contractors and staff.
MEMBERSHIP: SWA Membership committee’s mission is to retain, enhance, and grow the membership of the Solid Waste Alliance. Tools to utilize in this mission include communications with existing members, communications with potential members, refinement of membership tiers and fee structures, and membership promotions.
CONFERENCE: The Conference Committee plans the annual SWA conference, including speaker and moderator rosters, location, venue contracts, and theme, publicity, registrations, and sponsors. The annual conference is the single largest financial fundraiser for the SWA each year and therefore requires committed volunteers.
FUND RAISING: The Fund Raising Committee is tasked with creating fundraising tools, sponsor benefits, and lists of potential donors. The Committee assists the organization and the Board of Directors in securing sustainable funding sources for the organization. The committee works to integrate all SWA fundraising into a coordinated effort.
COMMUNICATION: The Communications Committee is tasked with communicating with SWA members and sometimes the general public, regarding the output and work of the Board, its activities, concerns, opinions, and responses. The Communications Committee provides newsletters, social media outreach, website updates, and maintenance, publicity on events and annual SWA conference, award and scholarship winners, publicity on nominations and annual Board elections, and on SWA programs.
NOMINATION: This committee solicits leadership position nominations and prepares slates for SWA members and the board votes.
EDUCATION: The Education committee’s mission is to increase waste management knowledge, best practices, and the economic benefits of solid material management in our country.
AWARD: The Awards Committee’s is tasked with recruiting, selecting and awarding outstanding candidates for SWA annual awards ceremony. Prior to SWA’s annual conference, the committee recruits and selects outstanding waste management programs, companies, innovators and individuals from a group of applicants nominated.
